Wednesday Blog Post a little late

Hello Cherub Followers,

Sorry this post is a little late...I started posting our days activities yesterday only to find that the site was down for upgrades. A little late, but still good...

You can really feel the energy around here....we had 11 children today who decided not to take a nap. It was like a party in the big room for 2 hours! That means....early night at your house and children who have a continual "difference of opinion" with us grown ups in the afternoon.

We did have fun learning about trains...read some Thomas the Train stories and enjoyed playing outside in this very pleasant weather. Enjoy the pictures...I'll be back to blog today's events later today.

Fly Cherub Airlines...the only way to fly!

What a great way to fly! Today, we had a great flight to anywhere in our imagination. Katie Muir, John's mom, who is a flight attendant for United Airlines, was our flight director this morning...we learned how to board a plane, got tickets, put on our pretend seatbelts and talked about rules for flying on the plane; quiet voice, listening to directions and being a courteous passenger. Cherub Airlines is the best airline for safety, ontime record and delicious airline pretzels and apple juice.

Generous Katie served all of our friends just like we were onboard the plane. Each child received airline wings, some "baseball" style cards about the United fleet and a comfort kit with eyeshade, earplugs and more in your child's cubbie. Katie also read a story about the airport while we were "in flight".

We're off on Voyages Unknown....Yet

Hello Cherub-ians,

It's week one of our transportation theme.We are looking forward to exciting adventures as learn about transportation and how it gets us from one place to another. Today we had an overview of types of transportation; busses, trains, planes, cars, boats, submarines etc. We learned about the rules of driving  about stop signs, traffic lights and what other signage looks like out there on the road. This morning, we even made our own edible traffic lights as well as paper ones.

This afternoon we will become cartographers and making our very own maps. Look for them on the bulletin board in a day or two after the glue dries! :)

As a fond fairwell to some of our friends who are leaving us to go to kindergarten or moving out of the area, we are saying goodbye with a super fun Friday....complete with bounce house and farewell/graduation ceremony at 4 p.m. on Friday, 8/12. Don't miss the fun!

Lindsay Wildlife Museum Visit

What a great day! We saw a turkey vulture, grey fox, eagles, owls, snakes and more. We saw where the animals enclosures/living spaces and what they eat. We even saw snakes, "walking sticks" in a terrarium. They were hard to see! We had a picnic in Larkey Park and played in the park!

There's No Business Like Monkey Business

Oh my goodness! So much fun! Our Wild Animals Week is going great! Today we made monkeys that are hanging around all over. We have been learning all week about Wild Animals and tomorrow we will be going to the Alexander Lindsey Museum in Walnut Creek to see some wild animals.Check out our photos of monkeys and our completed giraffes on both our bulletin board and on the blog. So cute!

Today we had the opportunity to serve ourselves our own taco fixings and enjoyed both serving ourselves and making choices of what we like on our tacos. We ate everything in sight...it was a hit!

Also, if you didn't know...being the line leader here is a big deal. This means you lead your friends in or out of school to the playground. Last week, we had my border collie, Maynard G. Krebs, come to school on dog day and explain how a border collie helps on the ranch/farm to keep all the sheep together etc. One young friend stated to me yesterday that he wanted to be the "Border Collie" at the end of the line to make sure everyone got outside. Love it! Now I have people begging to be ther "Border Collie" of the day! :)

Giraffe-a-Terrific Day

Hello Followers!

Today we learned all about giraffes. Did you know that the giraffe's foot/hoof is about the size of a dinner plate? or that giraffes have to spread their front legs way apart to get a drink because their neck is so long? And they can see up to a mile away, scanning the savanna for danger!

We had fun making our giraffes and letting them dry. Of course, if you have been following the blog, you know why they have to dry overnight.....gobs of glue everywhere.....

Safari Fun

We learned about animals that live in the jungle, savannah and other areas of Africa and Asia. This morning we started making our savannah, then this afternoon after it dried after exuberent glue usage. We also took turns stirring, mixing and pouring our corn muffins that we had for this afternoon's snack. Yumm-o!
